Immigration Reform
Priorities
The 37th district is composed of predominately Hispanic/Latino residents, with non-English languages spoken as the primary language. Due to Trump's expansion of I.C.E., mass arrests of immigrants from different communities and neighborhoods has instilled fear, created fragmented families, and harmed local communities.
But, fear no more! Change is on the way.
In order to provide protections for vulnerable individuals and their families, and to allow undocumented persons to integrate as full participants in American Life and Society, I will champion for:
Amendment of immigration detention system
Eliminate detention as method of deterrence
End for-profit corporations in detention centers
Expand + Prioritize community-based alternatives (ATDS)
Evaluate + Revise enforcement strategies, ensuring humane treatment
Separation of local policing from interior enforcement
Prohibit use of military resources and personnel
Promote access to asylum and due process
Limit policies that place burden on asylum, establishing pathways to citizenship
Universal access to pro Bono legal programs
Adopt policies that address causes of migration
Political + Religious persecution, environmental degradation, economic underdevelopment and exclusion
Mitigate irregular migration and promote intervention programs
Anti-trafficking measures and oppose transnational organized crime
